Prawn kulambu

Wow..am excited about posting this recipe...as am new to the blog world...i just came across the event “Quick and Easy Recipe Mela”   ..so happy to participate with my recipe, as  I made the curry today for lunch,so here goes the recipe...

Ingredients:
Prawns- Frozen-250gm (as quick & easy )
sambar onion-1/2cup
garlic-10 no's
tomato-2 nos
curry leaves-few sprigs
jeera-1/2tsp
thalippu vadagam-1/2tsp
tamarind-1lime size
sesame oil-3tsp
mustard-1/2tsp
fenugreek-1/2tsp
coconut-1/4cup(grind to paste with little water)
Kulambu milagai thool- 3tsp(adjust according to taste)
Turmeric-1/4tsp
Coriander powder-2tsp
Salt as required

Method:
1.Chop the onion and garlic ,tomatoes.
2.Soak tamarind .
3.Heat a kadai,add oil and splutter mustard,fenugreek and jeera and thalipu vadagam..add the chopped onion and garlic and curry leaves and saute till golden then add tomatoes and saute till cooked..
4.Add the dry powders and saute well taking care not to burn..
5.Add the tamarind extract and bring to boil till raw smell disappears.then add ground coconut and boil..
6.Add the prawns,cover and cook for 5 minutes..
7.This goes well with idli,dosa,aapam and rice.

hey sab cook..I have a question.....
what is "Thalipu vadagam".. will i get it in my place? or what is the substitute for it?

Deeps it the vengaya vadagam u can buy/make it at home...will get u the recipe..it gives nice aroma to the seasoning and kulambu...

Hi Sabina,
thank you for posting your comment and doubt. For appam I've always used raw rice and never tried par boiled rice. If dosas come out well, I'm sure appams will too...all the best
